Fern Gully Jamaica is a beautifully scenic stretch of road that runs from Ocho Rios to Colgate. The three mile stretch is known for its breathtaking beauty of ferns towering high above the road forming a shady tunnel of greenery. Stunning sky scraping ferns can grow up to 30 feet in some areas.

The Fern Gully landscape is extensive with over 500 varieties of fern and other species like Blue Mahoe and Banana trees creating the awe inspiring wonder. Some 300 of the fern variety can be seen from the road. Some say it’s like driving through a rain forest.

The roadway that runs through fern gully was established in 1907. The road was built after an earthquake destroyed one of the eight rivers in the Ocho Rios area. The river bead was paved and the roadway was established.

Taking a trip down Fern Gully is an adventure in its own, with vendors lining the road with wooden carvings and sculptures.

Temperatures can drop up to ten degrees in the deepest parts of the gorge where only faint peaks of sunshine penetrate through the thick foliage. Take a loved one for the awe inspiring view and drive.
